“ Martin was a stellar research assistant with the University of British Columbia's Climate Solutions Research Collective, a new university initiative to connect researchers across the university, and to catalyze and promote solutions-oriented research. He played a central role in developing a taxonomy of climate solutions research and a find-a-researcher tool, which will help the university external and internal climate research partnerships.

The work showcased and further developed his skills in synthesizing research, project management, database creation and management, and written and oral communication. It provided his exposure to breadth of climate research, as well as the cutting edge questions in climate change mitigation, adaptation and education. Throughout his year working with us, Martin was a sharp, dedicated professional who exhibited intelligence, adaptability and maturity. His performance was particularly impressive given that he was also taking a full slate of classes in his challenging engineering program. ”

“ Martin took the lead on developing a searchable database of researchers, taking the project from a concept through ideation and development. He was methodical in his approach and maintained accurate records to do a thorough search of available resources.

Martin did an excellent job of managing his time while carrying a full course load, and communicated his progress through regular meetings. I was always confident that Martin would ask questions if he needed clarification, and he was excellent at trouble shooting and seeking out solutions to challenges. ”

“ Martin was a co-lead for a project under Engineers for a Sustainable World-UBC. Though his term was short, he showed dedication to the club and dedicated his time to ensure the project started successfully.

Outside the project, Martin demonstrated excellence as our cohort's Year Representative. Under his leadership, students and professors were able to communicate scheduling issues well, resources were distributed properly, and peer collaboration was enhanced. In fact, when asking anyone in our cohort who they think should be our year's next representative, their answer would always be Martin. ”
